The Interior

The Fortress is a large dwelling of 657,79 yr² which accommodates up to twelve people in five double rooms and the "sweet Cortesiana", a romantic and very special suite, which enjoys the privacy of the whole medieval tower. There aren't triple or quadruple rooms and beds and baby coats are not added. Thanks to this limited number of guests we guarantee everyone a special and exclusive attention. We accommodate only children from 14 years of age as there are no spaces and services tailored to the needs of an age lower.
The rooms, so differently characterised from one another, are furnished with original antiques, canopy beds, matching fabrics of precious fancy collections by the renowned fashion designer Rubelli, paintings and objects of the family. Each bedroom got its ensuite bath full of personalized details and provided with wall-hairdryer and basic courtesy set. By choice, we have thought the bedrooms as the place devoted to achieving rest and relax, thus no televisions, but the opportunity to enjoy a pleasant classical music and books in several languages at your disposal on request during your stay.

The environment contains old fireplaces, some of them vaulted, medieval stairs, exposed beams and hand made terra cotta floors. It preserves the charm of past and radiates a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. At our guests disposal alsoa lounge with confortable sofas and armchairs, large living-dining room with conversation area in front of an ancient medieval fireplace, where you can rediscover the pleasure of conviviality.

At  Fortezza de' Cortesi the type of board offered is overnight bed and breakfast with both sweet and savoury choices. The breakfast buffet of authentic Tuscan food with homemade cakes, seasonal fruit, “bruschette” and highly selected artisanal cheese is served in the charming dining room with fireplace. In the summer guests can also enjoy the lovely gazebo with table and chairs set in the garden in front of the splendid view of the Tuscan hills and the skyline of San Gimignano towers.

Dinner is a set menu on previous reservation. Four courses from appetizers to desserts, prepared with seasonal products from our farm and region. Family recipes passed from mother to daughter, to recreate a pleasant moment of conviviality and offer our guests the taste of tradition in an environment with authentic charm of the past. We organize themed dinners, homemade pasta lessons, rich tastings ranging from snack to full lunch, where the main product is our prized Saffron of San Gimignano DPO.
 

 

Outside
Around the fortress, a terraced panoramic garden with the typical rustic Tuscan lawn with gazebo overlooking San Gimignano towers framed by the greenish landscape of hills all around , the quiet and relaxing  swimming pool 6x12 with patio, sun-loungers in the solarium area and a beautiful wooden pergola with curtains providing plenty of shade and privacy, the walking paths in our 7 acres property of peaceful ancient woodland and  hiking trails for trekking and bird watching,  the olive grove, the gardens of aromatic herbs, saffron and vegetables fields of our sustainable farm, the convenient parking lot. 
From the property depart and arrive two beautiful tracks, designed and developed with a local tourist agency, to nourish the spiritual and physical energy and discover the natural,  geological, archaeological resources, the beauty of the ridges of the Val d'Elsa, littered of castles, abbeys and shrines originated by the passage of the medieval Via Francigena.
 

Notes
The owners live next door, welcome guests personally, are at disposal for any need and source of precious information on the area, on happenings, traditions and travel tips.

On the ground floor there is a bedroom also disabled suitable with private entrance

To comply with the laws on public security, guests must give copy of passport for each staying person and sign in the authorization to personal data use.

Pets are NOT allowed..
 

  • The pool is open from June to September inclusive.
  • Heating and air conditioning running seasonally.
  • Towels and bed-sheets are changed every 3 days.
  • The board or half board service is not provided.
  • For a minimum of 8 to a maximum of 12 people, upon prior request, we provide dinner at the Fortezza.
